Today’s Quick Entertainment Notes,
• LAST WEEK: We were so honored to host the Women in Entertainment event on International Women’s Day at Hotel Tybee with Film Savannah. This followed interviews with local media where Jezlan and I were able to share information about the event with local tv stations WJCL and WSAV. We then headed to Athens for an incredible evening for the Cine Oscars Gala. I wrote about these activities over the weekend and posted a few pictures on LinkedIn.
At the Women in Entertainment event, I surprised our very own Jezlan Moyet with an announcement that we had originally planned for April. She has been promoted to President of Georgia Entertainment. Many already know of her abilities and talent working alongside myself to further our efforts in Georgia and beyond our state’s borders. Please review the event’s reel, pictures and official recap.
• CREATIVE ECONOMY STUDY COMMITTEE: A Senate and House Resolution is pending to study Georgia’s Creative Economy. In the Senate, it is sponsored by Senator Derek Mallow (D- Savannah), Rules Chairman Matt Brass (R-Newnan), Senator Sonya Halpern (D-Atlanta), and others. There is also a House version of the Resolution that is slated to be introduced. (Hat tip to Matt Campbell for leading this charge.) The introduction of this study shows how far we have come in Georgia. Embracing the whole of Georgia’s creative industries and understanding the economic impact on the state is crucial.
• OTHER QUICK ITEMS: The Creative Placemaking Summit was a wild success. The Georgia Entertainment team provided a great recap for those who may have missed it. Several interesting jobs were posted on our Georgia Jobs link this week – Yom Ice Cream, Athens-Clark County, and Georgia Dept. of Economic Development. On Thursday the 14th, the Cherokee Film Summit takes place with special guests including Lee Thomas, Todd Harris, Billy Gabor and others. Georgia Film Day is being held on Monday, the 18th packed with great content throughout the day.

The Mechanical Licensing Collective (“MLC”) was created to make paying songwriters and publishers easier. Just as performance rights organizations issue blanket licenses to music users (radio stations, television, venues, etc.) and then collect and distribute performance royalties to their members, the MLC issues blanket licenses to streaming and download services (collectively, digital service providers or “DSPs”) and then collects and distributes mechanical royalties to its members.
