The Hunger Games: Catching Fire & Mockingjay
Based on the wildly popular book series, the film is set in a futuristic world where the world is divided into districts that compete in The Hunger Games. Children fight to the death as a sacrifice is made to the Capitol. Katiss Everdeen survives the first games with Peeta Mellarck but then continues to battle the President Snow. Jennifer Lawrence stars in the series, which was filmed around Georgia, including the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, the Swan House at the Atlanta History Center, and Sweetwater Creek State Park.
The 5th Wave
After four waves of deadly alien attacks, the people of Earth are on the run. Cassie teams up with a stranger before the fifth wave in hopes of finding her brother. Atlanta native Chloë Grace Moretz stars in the thriller, which filmed around Cotton Avenue and Cherry Street in Macon as well as in Atlanta’s Candler Park.
Pitch Perfect 3
The third installment of this comedy about a college a capella troupe was filmed in Georgia starting January 2017. Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Elizabeth Banks, Brittany Snow and Alexis Knapp all reprise their roles. Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber also make appearances. Filming has been spotted on Peachtree Street in Atlanta and in Marietta.
Divergent Series: Insurgent & Allegiant
In the Divergent series, the second and third films used locations in Georgia. In the follow up to the original, Tris and Four are on the run from Jeanine, and they team up with fellow rebels. Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Kate Winslet starred. Filming for the two movies took place at Serenbe, which was used as the Amity compound; Rome’s Lindale Mill, and the High Museum of Art.
The Spectacular Now
In another movie based on a book, a hard-partying high schooler and a quiet girl fall for one another, despite the concerns of their friends and family. The film, which starred Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller, was shot around Athens, particularly on the University of Georgia campus.
