Gainesville among locations in Georgia targeted for ‘Rampage’ starring The Rock

A scene for a movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is being filmed in Gainesville near the Brenau University campus.

“Rampage” stars Johnson as Davis Okoye, a primatologist who “shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster,” according to a Warner Brothers press release.

The movie set for an April 20 release will be filming here for a few days spread over a multiweek period, spokesman Gregg Brilliant said, as well as other locations across Georgia, plus some shooting in Chicago and other parts of North America.

Gainesville spokeswoman Catiel Felts confirmed filming of a movie has started in Gainesville, but she couldn’t provide further details.

Johnson will re-team with “San Andreas” and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” director Brad Peyton. The popular actor keeps a busy filming schedule and stars in the “Baywatch” movie released Thursday.
