Georgia’s Film Industry Is Bigger Than One Studio

Commentary by Jezlan Moyet, president of Georgia Entertainment

Recent headlines about Marvel shifting production overseas paint a dramatic picture—but they don’t tell the whole story. Marvel’s decision to film in the U.K. is about global economics, not Georgia’s competitiveness. Exchange rates, health care requirements and union considerations make foreign shoots temporarily attractive. That’s a worldwide issue—affecting California, New York, and every other U.S. production hub—not a Georgia problem.

The truth is, Georgia remains the most reliable and cost-effective place for film and television production in America. Our incentive is still the gold standard—straightforward, stable, and unmatched by other states. It’s the backbone of a permanent infrastructure that includes world-class facilities like Trilith Studios, Great Point Studios, Shadowbox, Cinelease and others all supported by one of the most experienced workforces in the country.

Yes, the industry has shifted from the unprecedented boom years fueled by back-to-back Marvel blockbusters. But what we’re seeing today is stability, not collapse. Production volume in Georgia has leveled to a sustainable pace, and our crews are working not only on films, series and streaming projects from Netflix, Apple and Amazon, but also on commercials, music videos, esports and live events. This diversification strengthens our creative economy and ensures creative professionals can thrive across multiple sectors.

Georgia’s entertainment economy isn’t just a cluster — it’s a community with lasting roots. Like our red clay, the foundation of infrastructure, talent and incentives here is enduring, resilient and uniquely our own. This strength has made Georgia one of the best places in America to make film and television today, while also positioning the state as a driving force in shaping the future of global storytelling. Georgia’s role at the center of this industry is transformative, and it will continue to grow for generations to come.
