Revenues from Latin music in the United States grew 3% to $176 million in 2016, the first growth in Latin music since the market’s high point in 2005. Streaming accounted for 74% of the Latin market, driven by an 89% increase in revenues from paid subscription models. But while growth is good news, it is tempered by outdated federal laws that allow ad-supported on-demand streaming platforms to pay below market rates to music creators.
