NC Legislators may take up extending state’s film credit grant funding

0

The legislature may attempt to conduct a proactive move to extend the state’s beleaguered film credit grant program during this week’s third special 2017 session.

According to a confirmed memo sent to legislators by House Speaker Tim Moore, R-Cleveland, he listed “film credit expiration fix” as an item for consideration.

The current grant program has a July 1, 2020, sunset date.

“Certainly addressing the sunset date would be advantageous to our project recruitment efforts, particularly with regards to the recruitment of television series,” Guy Gaster, director of the N.C. Film Office, said in a statement.

In 2005, North Carolina began giving up to a 15 percent tax credit for qualifying film productions, raising it to 25 percent in 2009.
