Georgia Entertainment welcomed guests to the 2025 Rome International Film Festival with the RIFF Kickoff, presented by Georgia Highlands College and Southern Isle Pictures. The event took place Nov. 6 at the historic DeSoto Theatre, featuring industry insights, professional networking and film celebration designed to launch the Rome International Film Festival. The event brought together local officials, entertainment industry professionals and film enthusiasts to highlight Georgia’s growing role in film and digital media production.

The evening began with welcoming remarks from Rome City Manager Sammy Rich, followed by opening comments from Randy Davidson and Jezlan Moyet of Georgia Entertainment. Attendees then viewed the “Signing Tony Raymond” trailer before moving into a panel discussion with Georgia producers and industry professionals including John Thomas and Kristy Clabaugh of Southern Isles Pictures, Glen Owen of State Line Films and producer Mitch Olsen.
Following a video showcase from Georgia Highlands College students, the program continued with the panel “The Future of Film Education in North Georgia.” The discussion featured Dr. Jessica Lindberg, dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at GHC, along with Katie Baxter, program coordinator for the bachelor’s in Digital Media and Communication at GHC, filmmaker Ryan Simmons from BrandRED and GHC graduate Justin Ford, who shared insights on educational opportunities and career pathways in the region’s growing film industry.
The evening concluded with a screening of “Signing Tony Raymond” at the DeSoto Theatre. The RIFF Kickoff underscored Georgia Entertainment’s commitment to supporting local film initiatives and showcasing the state’s entertainment industry. The event served as an introduction to the Rome International Film Festival, connecting industry professionals with the local community.
