“A Different World” is about to come for a whole new generation.
Netflix has picked up the sequel series for the popular NBC sitcom, Variety announced in a report published on Monday.
The groundbreaking series, which aired from 1987 to 1993, followed the lives of students and faculty members of the fictional Hillman College, an HBCU based in Virginia. Although “A Different World” never filmed scenes in Georgia, exteriors for Hillman were shot at Spelman College.
Spelman, as well as neighboring campuses Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University, also served as a primary influence for writers and producers in portraying a realistic depiction of HBCU life.
