Costume designer Beverly Saffier has built an extraordinary career spanning more than three decades, amassing close to 90 credits across film, television, and theater. In this conversation with Jezlan Moyet, president of Georgia Entertainment, filmed at Discover Dunwoody’s studio, Saffier reflects on the instincts and philosophy behind her work, tracing her eye for storytelling through wardrobe back to childhood and describing how she immerses herself fully in a character’s world through research before ever making a design choice.
The conversation turns to her recent work on On A Bell, an indie horror project filmed at Assembly Studios, where she collaborated closely with the director to build a menacing, larger than life character from the ground up. Saffier speaks warmly about the entirely Georgia based crew behind the production and the pride she takes in the state’s growing reputation within the industry, crediting Georgia’s homegrown talent for setting a standard recognized around the world.
Looking ahead, Saffier shares that she and her collaborators are reviewing new scripts from Georgia based writers, underscoring her ongoing commitment to supporting local and independent storytelling. She closes with a guiding philosophy: budget matters far less than the passion and care brought to the work, whether it’s a student film or a major studio production.
