This year the Georgia Film Academy participated in the 68th Annual Southern Regional Press Institute, hosted by Savannah State University Department of Journalism and Mass Communications.
The panel, “The Film Industry” was held on Thursday, Feb. 28 in Whiting Hall, Room 110A, discussing the experiences and ways to prosper in the film industry.
TV Director of Programming William Martin of WTRT-TV, hosted the workshop along with Georgia Film Academy instructor John Grace, executive director of the Savannah Area Film Office Beth Nelson, and SSU online content manager Kareem McMichael.
During the panel, Grace gave information about the Georgia Film Academy. “It is a two semester program,” Grace said. “I teach the production side. The first semester is pretty much the overview of the film industry and the second semester is hands on.”
The Georgia Film Academy is taught at 13 colleges across the state of Georgia. In Savannah, it is taught at Savannah Technical College.
According to Savannah Tech’s website, the program provides basic on-set film production skills and knowledge, and is designed to prepare students for on-set careers. It is usually completed within two semesters.
