Augusta jail called best prison set in the U.S.

0

Augusta’s abandoned jail has a bright future – in the film business.

That was the message from members of a production team filming the code-named “Baseball Movie” on Monday at the former Joint Law Enforcement Center at 401 Walton Way, and several Augusta commissioners who toured the facility with them were biting.

Georgia’s film tax credits bring productions to the state, but the rarity of the six-story jail building, with its built-in courtrooms and law enforcement office space sealed the deal for the team working on a film Monday at the site, several said.

“We were in need of a prison set, and this is probably the best prison set in the United States,” said Warren Ostergard, an actor and co-founder of the Los Angeles-based media financing company Producer Capital Fund. “You haven’t seen it in a lot of movies – it’s not overused.” See more at the Augusta Chronicle.
