Women’s History Month: 1,000 Dreams Fund’s Broadcast HER Coalition 2025 to Support Women in Gaming & Esports

The month will kick off with BroadcastHER Coalition partners coming together to support 1,000 Dreams Fund’s annual Streams For Dreams Twitch Charity Fundraiser from March 7 – 9, 2025. For a second year in a row, Twitch Women’s Guild returns to fundraise and directly support for 1DF’s BroadcastHER Grant, which awards up to $1,500 in microgrant funding to content creators.

Film shot in Thomson stars Bluegrass legend, written by Aiken native

The film brings to life the song “Boys in the Street” written by Greg Holden and recorded by Calum Scott in 2022, but with a twist. “The song is definitely the DNA, but I had to come up with everything around the nucleus,” said Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and Aiken native Justin Wheelon, who wrote the script for the feature with the same name as the song about the relationship of a father and his gay son.

SGFF ’25 Kicks Off With ‘Pinevale’ Documentary

The community is encouraged to come out for the screening and to learn more about the weekend’s events. The festival has moved to Valdosta State’s North Campus across from the South Georgia Medical Center. With screenings and visiting filmmaker panels, there’s a full schedule of activities all weekend long.

According to reports from the Georgia Film Office on March 5, 2025, there are currently 25 productions filming across the state. Among them, the following projects are either in production or soon to begin on the sound stages and backlots of Dunwoody’s neighboring Assembly Studios.

SGFF ’25 Hosts Regional Film Professionals

Beginning Thursday evening at the Turner Arts Center, the 2025 South Georgia Film Festival will hold its free preview night will full trailers and screening of a locally produced documentary. This year, Dr. Willie Housel and director Mark George will present their documentary “Pinevale High: Separate, Unequal, … Undeterred” and then talk with Professor Jason Brown before taking questions from the community.
