Amy Fuchs was working on Wall Street when she came to Atlanta for a wedding and fell in love with the city, infatuated enough to move South and take a job in finance. Tyler Perry’s colossal Southwest Atlanta film studio has a little bit of everything needed to make movies of all genres. It’s been about four years since Perry, a movie mogul and now prominent real estate developer, scooped up some 330 acres of former U.S. Army base Fort McPherson for a cool $30 million.
There is no minimum spending requirement, but some categories – including documentary films and instructional videos – don’t qualify. A portion of the funding is allocated to the state’s post-production tax credit, which offers a 30% reimbursement on post-production costs incurred in New York City, and 35% upstate.
