Atlanta horror convention spotlights female icons and filmmakers

0

Just in time for Women In Horror Recognition Month, Atlanta’s Days of the Dead convention opens this weekend with an impressive lineup of female artists, movie stars and filmmakers that reflects their ever-growing visibility in the genre.

In addition to the expected roster of male slasher flick icons, pro wrestlers, and heavy metal musicians, fans will have an opportunity to interact with such celebrities as “Exorcist” star Linda Blair and Adrienne King from the original “Friday the 13th.” Other listed guests include Amanda Wyss (“A Nightmare On Elm Street”), Caroline Williams (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2”), P.J. Soles (“Halloween”), and Lynn Lowry (“The Crazies”).

For those who prefer a break from the constant activity in the autograph and vendor rooms, a weekend-long film festival holds screenings during and after convention hours. The schedule includes several new films by female directors including “Demon Hunter” by Zoe Kavanagh, “She Was So Pretty” by Brooklyn Ewing, and a 2-hour block of shorts courtesy of Etheria Film Night.
