With Hidden Figures nominated for a Best Picture Oscar and television shows Stranger Things and Atlanta recent winners at the SAG Awards and Golden Globe Awards, respectively, the Georgia film and TV industry is at a peak, producing both high-profile and critically acclaimed projects throughout the state. As part of last weekend’s fifth annual aTVfest — SCAD Atlanta’s celebration of television programming — area industry members came together to discuss the growth of the local industry, why it has taken off and what the future holds.
The Hollywood of the South: The Georgia Entertainment and Studios Panel featured Lee Thomas, deputy commissioner of the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office; Christopher Hicks, director of the City of Atlanta’s Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment; Dan Rosenfelt, president of operations for Third Rail Studios in Doraville, and Kevin Bar, vice president and international sales executive of Pinewood Atlanta Studios.
