Here’s what you need to know about the changes to Louisiana’s film tax credit program

A favorite target of Louisiana budget hawks is undergoing significant changes.

Three bills this year have overhauled Louisiana’s Motion Picture Investor Tax Credit program, which offers incentives to draw entertainment productions to the state.

The changes include capping the amount of tax credits the state issues, as well as extra incentives to encourage entertainment companies to locate in Louisiana long term and to create more of a homegrown industry.

“We’re still going to be very competitive,” said Sherri McConnell, special assistant to LED Secretary Don Pierson. “But we’re being smarter about how we spend those dollars.”
