Atlanta Film Festival marks 10-year anniversary of Georgia film tax credit

0

After a decade of generous tax incentives supporting film production in the Peach State, the 42nd annual Atlanta Film Festival will kick off with one of its strongest lineups ever, thanks in large part to the growth of Georgia’s film industry.

More than 25,000 festivalgoers are expected to attend the 2018 festival over the next 10 days to watch 200-plus short and feature-length films. These unique and independent films have been handpicked from all over the world, yet nearly a quarter have Georgia ties to filmmakers or production – a feat simply not possible 10 years ago.

“There has been a direct relationship between the growth of Georgia’s film industry, the number of people working in this sector across the Atlanta area, and the year-over-year increase in festival attendance and quality of programming represented at the Atlanta Film Festival,” Christopher Escobar, executive director of the Atlanta Film Society, which hosts the festival, said in a news release. “We’re proud to share in the industry’s growth as one of the oldest and largest organizations, dedicated throughout the year, to the promotion and education of film in the United States.
