Looking back at 2022, Big items for 2023

0
I wanted to send a quick note to all our readers and partners as we wind down 2022 and look forward into 2023. It was a rebuilding year for many in film, music and gaming as we were able to enjoy more physical interaction and face-time… finally.
We sincerely thank our readers and our partners. You make it possible for us to cover the state, educate via our events, meetings and publication and participate in a small way to the success we all enjoy.
Personally, I have been amazed by the maturing of our industry in 2022. Consider:
– the expansion of educational opportunities for Georgians seeking a career in film, music and gaming,
– the number of new companies launched specifically to service productions and create jobs for Georgians,
– the unification of various interest groups to push toward the same goal of maintaining, improving and possibly expanding the film tax credit,
– the influx of creatives from all over the world flocking to make Georgia their home and participate in this creative economy.
As we look into 2023, these are the key items we are monitoring and working with our partners on.
– The upcoming legislative session has a new slate of chairmanships and many brand new legislators. We are working with partners to educate and lobby on the behalf of the industry via our events, meetings and content within our publication.
– The tax credit has spawned new businesses all over Georgia. The state, with industry leaders, are working to provide more precise data that will allow better measurement of progress or areas to improve.
– Opportunities for rural communities are being explored in more earnest. Leaders around the state are reviewing strategies to expand the economic impact zone for music, gaming and film outside Atlanta.
– It is essential for educational and workforce development initiatives to continue to evolve throughout the state and not just in film but music and gaming. The Georgia Film Academy has been a great example and will likely name a new leader in early 2023.
Technological advancements in digital entertainment is transforming the world. Statewide business leaders, in collaboration with government officials and educational institutions, are working on initiatives to make Georgia the worldwide centerpiece of this transformation.
Each of these are key to retaining the film tax credit and create the environment for expansion in other areas of digital entertainment. If we are not progressing on these measures, we are regressing.
A special shout out to our promotional partners for 2023. Beyond promoting their businesses to others, these organizations support our work to engage and advocate for a strong business environment in Georgia.
As always, message me if I can help you with anything. Thanks for a great 2022. Onward and upward!!
