Georgia-based Gray Television is one of the state’s most impacting businesses. The company is in the same category as Georgia giants Home Depot, UPS, Coca Cola, Delta and others. Setting aside common “size” characterizations like worldwide employees, Gray stands apart in a unique way as the nature of their business touches millions of lives daily as the largest owner of top-rated local television stations in America.

Beyond their 100+ TV stations, Gray is diversified with original programming and production companies along with Third Rail Studios and Assembly.

With that context, I wanted to share my experience in Augusta, Georgia this week. I was invited to appear on “Morning Mix’ to discuss Georgia’s film and entertainment industry. ‘Morning Mix’ is a daily lifestyle show on Gray’s WRDW-TV News 12 viewed by thousands in the CSRA.

We (Jezlan Moyet) were in town for two days of meetings with local government officials, entertainment professionals and business owners about the impact of film and entertainment on the Augusta region. We arrived at one of the most advanced broadcast studios I have seen, located in one of the most visible locations of the city – just off I20, headed into Downtown, and right past Augusta National.

The WRDW news team has been recognized with 2 national and 16 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards producing over 40 hours of news weekly. I was interviewed by Cliff Bennett and Nathalia Jacques.

To experience “Gray” on a local level was great and having their intimate involvement and connection to Georgia’s growing film and entertainment industry is a value to all in the state.

Regarding the interview, live TV is always interesting when watching later – I certainly would have said a couple things differently 🙂

Topics in the interview included:

  • ‘The Hill’ screening at the Miller Theater
  • Prospect for film growth in Georgia
  • Local impact beyond direct spending on film productions
  • Nurturing and growing music, gaming and film in Georgia
  • More information about the Georgia Unscripted event on the 30th (RSVP)
