Atlanta Shakespeare Company Brings the Bard Back for the Second Installment of DeKalb’s First-Ever Shakespeare Outdoor Series

Avondale Estates, GA – October 2025 — Following a successful September debut that drew families and theatre lovers from across DeKalb County, A Shakespeare Happening | Avondale Estates Town Green returns for its second installment this fall, continuing the momentum of DeKalb’s first-ever outdoor Shakespeare series.

Presented by Bard x Sage PR in partnership with the Atlanta Shakespeare Company, DeKalb County Commissioner Ted Terry (Super District 6), and the City of Avondale Estates, the series transforms the Town Green into an open-air stage for world-class performances, live music, and free community programming — all under the Georgia sky.

The October event, set for Saturday, October 11 from 2–5 PM, will feature Shakespeare Shorts — a lightning-fast comedic mashup that distills all the drama, romance, and chaos of Shakespeare into just 25 minutes, performed by only two actors and one unsuspecting audience member. The afternoon also includes live music by the Atlanta Shakespeare Company and a sneak peek of the upcoming Hamlet.

“We were thrilled by the turnout and enthusiasm at our first event in September,” said Nicole Sage, founder of Sage PR Consulting and creator of the Bard x Sage initiative. “Seeing families gather for Shakespeare on the Green — for free — is exactly what this series is all about. It’s proof that community theatre can unite and inspire across generations.”

“This is more than a performance — it’s a cultural moment for DeKalb,” said Commissioner Ted Terry. “When we invest in accessible art, we invest in stronger, more connected communities.”

Kati Grace Kirby, Associate Managing Director of the Atlanta Shakespeare Company, added,

“It’s an honor to partner on this new tradition. Shakespeare belongs to everyone — and bringing these stories into shared community spaces is how theatre lives and breathes.”

The City of Avondale Estates continues to champion the series as a reflection of its Stratford-upon-Avon–inspired roots.

“Hosting this free, family-friendly cultural event at the Town Green perfectly fits our city’s spirit,” said City Manager Patrick Bryant. “It’s something truly special — and uniquely Avondale.”
