Elizabeth Strickler, educator and media innovation strategist at Georgia State University, will lead a groundbreaking AI Filmmaking Intensive on Saturday, November 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Athena Studios (900 Athena Drive, Athens). Co-hosted by Georgia StoryLab, this hands-on workshop will teach participants how to create a complete short film using cutting-edge generative AI tools, from initial concept to final production.
Strickler brings her expertise in media innovation and creative technology education to this unique one-day intensive, designed to demystify AI tools and make them accessible to creators at all experience levels.
“Whether you’re a filmmaker, creative technologist, artist, or just curious about AI’s potential, you’ll leave with real skills and a finished project,” said Elizabeth Strickler, workshop leader and Georgia State University media innovation strategist.
The workshop covers the complete AI filmmaking pipeline, including story development using AI writing tools, image and video generation, editing and assembly, AI music and sound design, and ethical considerations in AI-powered storytelling. Participants can create various formats including music videos, short animations, commercials, or narrative films.
Supported by a small team of creative professionals, Strickler will guide participants through each step of the process in a personalized, small group setting. No prerequisites or prior AI experience is required – the intensive welcomes everyone from established filmmakers to those simply curious about AI’s creative possibilities.
“Elizabeth Strickler represents the cutting edge of media education in Georgia,” said Honnie Korngold, founder of Georgia StoryLab and Producer with CineVantage. “Her hands-on approach to generative AI education empowers creators to experiment fearlessly while maintaining the artistic integrity that defines great storytelling. This workshop demonstrates how Georgia’s film industry continues to lead in innovation.”
The intensive takes place at Georgia StoryLab, a collaborative production hub and creative incubator located on the Athena Studios lot. Georgia StoryLab connects established production companies with emerging creators, providing space, resources, and partnerships to experiment with fresh approaches to storytelling, funding, and distribution.
Each participant will receive access to curated AI platforms and templates, hands-on instruction throughout the day, and a pre-work packet to ensure readiness. The workshop maintains an intimate learning environment with personalized guidance from Strickler and her support team.
Registration is $199 for early bird tickets through November 1, with student rates available. The registration deadline is November 13, 2024. Interested participants can register at https://luma.com/xp7dssyq.
