Weekend Box Office Results: ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Earns $83M, 3rd Biggest Horror Opening Ever

0

Well, no one saw this coming, but what an awesome jolt to what was expected to be a sleepy September: The Conjuring: Last Rites had all the blessings from its fans this weekend, who made the film the third highest opening ever for a horror movie at the domestic B.O. with $83M and the second biggest worldwide at $187M. The original global outlook was $80M on Last Rites! Peg it to audiences being told that this is the last we’ll see of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson’s Warren paranormal investigators — at least for now.

Last Rites ranks as the eighth No. 1 opening for Warners this year, and also their seventh movie to open north of $40M; I’m told that’s a record no other studio has ever pulled off. Warner Bros, is now ranked No. 1 in domestic, overseas and global market share with $1.73B stateside, $2B international and $3.77B worldwide.
