The Color Purple Production Contributed Over $74.2 Million in Direct Spending While Filming Throughout Georgia

Production of The Color Purple – a reimagined, bold new take on the classic novel and award-winning Broadway musical – was an economic engine for Georgia, according to new data released by Warner Bros. Pictures. The data was released at a screening of the upcoming film in Atlanta on Monday night co-hosted by the studio and the Motion Picture Association (MPA).

Film Ready New Jersey Revving Up Spending Incentive

Recognizing the success of the Film & Digital Media Tax Credit, Murphy signed a bill in July to expand the program through 2039 and increase the annual allocation to $430 million. The law increased the base tax credit available to Studio Partners to 40%.

Audit: Film Incentive Induces Substantial Economic Activity in Georgia

An audit prepared by the Georgia State University Fiscal Research Center says the Georgia FTC (Film Tax Credit) induces substantial economic activity in Georgia. The report also suggests that alternative uses for the more than $1 billion in annual credits could be better utilized but does not cite any evidence or consider empirical data to the contrary.
